The Cave Diving Section of the National Speleological Society was founded. Sheck Exley was the first chairman, Jim Storey the vice chairman and Glen Thompson the secretary/treasurer. It was started with 21 members in 10 different states. Volume #1, Issue #1 of the new organizationís journal was released, but didnít have a name at the time. It is important to note the NSS-CDS was formed in the summer of 1973 at the annual NSS convention. The NSS-CDS was approved by the NSS on February 6, 1974.
